An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Research Nurse or Clinical Research Practitioner in the Rheumatology Research Department at University College London Hospital. This post would be ideally suited for someone with experience of working with adolescents. It is a part time post for 18.75 hours a week until 31/03/2025 in the first instance.

The Rheumatology Research Department works on a portfolio of University College London Hospital (UCLH) sponsored and hosted studies. We recruit to studies for adult and adolescent patients with inflammatory conditions. You will lead on several projects and support colleagues on others. Current studies include interventional trials of medicinal products (Phase I to IV) and observational projects.

The successful candidate will work closely with clinicians and academics in a close-knit team of research nurses and coordinators. They will be expected to develop their clinical skills.

This is a varied role suitable for a highly proficient worker with great communication skills who enjoys working across multiple projects in a collaborative manner. Candidates should be proficient computer users and have an interest in clinical research and rheumatology.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Research Nurse / Trial Practitioner is an autonomous specialist working within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be required to work according to Good Clinical Practice and relevant professional guidelines, taking responsibility for the coordination and support of rheumatology clinical research.

Responsibilities include management of University College London (UCL) clinical research studies and coordination of UCLH hosted studies from site set up to close down, recruitment of patients to trials, medicine administration and collection and preparation of biological samples. The post holder will be expected to develop specialised skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials, the therapies and relevant disease types. The post holder will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable the patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patient's advocate.

They will work closely with clinical teams at University College London Hospital (UCLH) and Centre for Adolescent Rheumatology research staff, Research Coordinators and collaborators across UCL as well as nationally.

  • First degree or equivalent, preferably in a numerate /scientific discipline
  • Professional nursing registration (RN only) Or Registration on the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Clinical Research Practitioner Accredited Register, or working towards. (CTP only)
  • Knowledge of clinical research including research ethics, design, phases and methodologies
  • Proven knowledge of ICH GCP guidelines

Desirable
