Lead Molecular Radiotherapy Advanced Practice Therapeutic Radiographer

Job summary

This role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to be part of the radiotherapy team at UCLH and become a key member of the UCLH molecular targeted therapies service.The post-holder will look after the day to day running of the molecular radiotherapy department, taking responsibility for the training of junior staff rotating through the department and working closely and in conjunction with the UCLH Cancer Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU) staff, including research nurses, clinical trials practitioners and data managers. The post holder leads and develops the service in the specialist area of work. In addition to maintaining a clinical service they will be required update and produce work instructions and procedures as well as leading in clinical audit. They will manage the department's statistics, patient data and waiting lists for review. The UCLH molecular radiotherapy department is a national referral centre.This role will enable patients to have access to a key-worker who will provide highly specialised support in molecular targeted therapies. This support will be available for patients and their families at diagnosis, during decision-making, during treatment, post treatment and during symptom management.

Main duties of the job

This is an autonomous role where the post holder is expected to manage their own case-load and is accountable for their own professional actions and the actions of more junior staff members. The post holder will provide professional clinical leadership and effective management of the MRT service staff, leading on the care of our MRT patients and be an integral part of the oncology team, providing the highest possible standard of care for patients requiring MRT.

The post holder will be recognised and accessible as an expert in MRT, promoting best practice, giving expert advice to patients and carers, delegating, and disseminating knowledge to the profession and to the wider multi discipline team. Ensuring highly accurate, complex MRT procedures are delivered safely to patients.

The post holder be responsible for identifying and setting standards and ensuring that staff are kept up to date with current MRT techniques and ongoing developments. They will play a key role in the overall pathway management of MRT patients within the radiotherapy service and for meeting national and local targets. They will ensure national and trust guidelines and directives are implemented and monitored.

The post holder will develop policies and protocols and will play an active role in research and in exploring and developing new ways of working to achieve the tri-fold goal of the service: improving quality of MRT treatment, improving patient care, and improving staff satisfaction.

  • BSc in therapeutic radiography or equivalent formal qualification.
  • Health Profession Council (HPC) registration as a therapy or nuclear medicine radiographer
