Job summary

Haematology Cancer Services is seeking an enthusiastic and bright individual who enjoys working in a busy, friendly, multi-disciplinary team environment. In this role, you will be working as a Ward Administrator on our Haematology Wards.

You will also be required to cover our busy main reception in the Grafton Way Building on an Ad - Hoc basis. Delivering quality service is at the forefront of our operations. Therefore, excellent customer service skills and a calm can-do attitude are crucial. This is a varied role, that offers the chance to join a friendly, professional, supportive team.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join UCLH. The successful applicant will be self-motivated and able to work autonomously, performing administrative duties including, but not limited to admitting patients into our patient information system, EPIC; uploading medical documents and clinical correspondence; collecting inpatient notes; supporting with patient discharges and providing administrative support to all clinical staff. You will be attentive to the reception & ward surroundings. Responsible for raising minor repair notifications as needed. Additionally, you will provide cross-cover for other ward administrators during times of leave or heavy workload to ensure the service consistently meets the needs of departmental staff. This is a permanent full-time role with a 37.5-hour workweek. There are shift patterns for the Main Reception include an early shift from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, a late shift from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm, and a regular shift from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Weekend shifts, either Saturday or Sunday, are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. When working on the wards the hours are 8.00am - 4.00pm. We are looking for a candidate eager to enhance their skills and knowledge. The work is varied and interesting, providing a solid foundation for career progression.

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including Grade C or higher in English and Maths
  • Awareness of the requirement to maintain confidentiality, and knowledge of the Data Protection Act

Desirable

  • Level 3 in Business Administration, Customer, Service, Healthcare Support Services or equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, acquired through training and/or previous experience of working in an administrative environment
  • Previous demonstrable experience of working in a customer facing environment, with knowledge of a comprehensive range of administrative procedures
  • Experience of working in a non-routine environment, with demonstrable evidence of being able to respond to queries and deal with unpredictable situations
