Team Lead Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapy

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and highly skilled Band 8a Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to lead our Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapy team at UCH on a one year, fixed term basis.

The post is based at UCH but also covers Grafton Way Building and Westmoreland Street Hospital. The successful applicant will be responsible for taking a lead role in the delivery, co-ordination and evaluation of the Adult Acute SLT service to areas including AMU, EDU, general medicine, care of the elderly, ICU, haematology, oncology, infectious diseases, respiratory and thoracic surgery inpatients.

The SLT service specialises in assessment and management of communication and swallowing difficulties in adult acute patients. The successful applicant will have competencies in videofluoroscopy, FEES and tracheostomy management. There is excellent multi-disciplinary team liaison and joint working is encouraged.

You will be employed in accordance with the terms and conditions set out in Agenda for Change. This post involves working with children and/or vulnerable adults and so the successful candidate will be required to apply for a Disclosure

Main duties of the job

To undertake a Clinical Lead role and be responsible for the operational management and delivery the Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapy team.

To assist and deputise for the Speech and Language Therapy Clinical Service Manager in the operational management and delivery of service objectives.

To contribute to the redesign of the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service as required.

Lead on professional advice regarding the SLT Service, including assessment and intervention for the service.

To lead or contribute to specific projects in line with strategic and business plans.

To ensure the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service Clinical Governance requirements are achieved and reported as per Trust processes.

To ensure professional standards of Speech and Language Therapists are maintained within the SLT Service.

To be responsible for supervision and appraisal of a motivated group of Band 7 SLTs as well as general management of the wider Adult Acute Team.
