Job summary

This is a new 2 PA consultant neurology job specialising in peripheral neuropathy particularly inherited neuropathies.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic neurologist with experience in genetic neuropathies to join the inherited peripheral neuropathy team in the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this 2 PA consultant neurology post is to support the increasing activity of the peripheral nerve service particularly the inherited peripheral nerve service including the transthyretin amyloid service. This post will both deliver peripheral neuropathy outpatient clinics and also liaise with the diagnostic genetic service through organising multi-disciplinary meetings to improve the diagnosis of inherited neuropathy patients in clinic. This job is most suitable for a neurologist with previous experience in managing inherited neuropathies and with a knowledge of genomics

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC, and on the Specialist Register, at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise

Desirable

  • Specific training in inherited neuropathy genetics

Experience

Essential

  • Experience as SPR in neuromuscular (peripheral nerve) neurology.
  • Within 6 months of neurology CCT

Desirable

  • Experience in management of inherited neuropathy patients

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Clinical experience of the care of patients with peripheral nerve diseases of all sorts including genetic and acquired disease to consultant standard

Desirable

  • Experience in interpreting genomic results.

Communication

Essential

  • Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.

Responsibilities towards promoting Equality Diversity and Inclusion
