Locum Consultant in General Gynaecology

Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a full-time locum consultant post in Gynaecology at University College London Hospital. The post is to cover maternity leave and may be extended dependant on the suitability of the candidate and the departmental need.

The postholder will work with the existing high calibre consultant body to provide general gynaecology services, with a focus on benign gynaecology, outpatient hysteroscopy and emergency gynaecological services, including On Call for both daytime and out of hours (nights/weekends).

The post-holder will be also expected to participate in teaching junior staff and students, clinical administration, audit and other aspects of clinical governance.

Main duties of the job

1 SPA will be allocated to the role to cover continuing professional development, including appraisal preparation, statutory and mandatory training and job planning.

The weekly job plan is anticipated to include:- At least 4 outpatient clinics- 1-2 outpatient hysteroscopy clinics- Day time On Call gynaecology consultant- Support for junior doctors performing surgical management of miscarriage- Alternate week operating session (half day), with the opportunity to take up extra lists as the need arises.- Clinical admin- Weekend on call (1 in xx), which includes a mandatory ward round on Saturday and Sunday 08.00-12.00 including all elective and emergency inpatients (including post-operative gynaecology oncology patients), and availability within xx travel time of the hospital

The postholder will also be given opportunity to work with and learn from the tertiary level Gynaecology Outpatient Diagnostic and Treatment Unit team, led by Professor Davor Jurkovic, and participate in the monthly research meetings of that department.

Essential

  • Fully trained in all aspects of general gynaecology to CCT level.
  • Independent at elective and emergency laparoscopy for ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy , ovarian torsion.
  • Independent at diagnostic and therapeutic hysteroscopy including polypectomy and TCRF.
  • Independent at miscarriage management including surgical management under local anaesthetic (MVA).
  • Competent at managing gynaecological emergencies including major haemorrhage and early pregnancy complications.

Desirable

  • Independent intermediate level laparoscopic surgery including laparoscopic BSO, Excision of mild/moderate endometriosis.
  • Demonstrated high level Gynaecology Ultrasound skill.
  • Demonstrated high level Early Pregnancy Ultrasound skill.

Non clinical professional skills

  • Ability to work flexibly, support colleagues when asked and communicate within a multidisciplinary team.
