CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOW IN GYNAECOLOGY
This job is now closed
Job summary
This post is designed for candidates at ST3 level and above who wish to obtain a postgraduate degree (PhD or equivalent). The post would be initially for one year with the option of extending for another two years subject to satisfactory review at six months. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of DrMs Jessica Farren and Professor Davor Jurkovic on developing original research projects on the diagnosis and management of ectopic pregnancy and other early pregnancy complications. These studies are expected to lead to publications in international peer-review journals and form the basis of the candidate's PhD thesis. In addition, the candidate will be expected to help with the organization and running or multicentre randomized clinical traials, which are part of clinical research activity in the Unit. They will also be expected to take a leading role within the team of clinical fellows.
The department also offers one-year clinical fellowships for those looking to develop gynaecology ultrasound skills. Potential candidates may separately apply for the clinical role and the academic role, as and when advertised, if they wish to be considered for either or both positions.
Interviews will be being held w/c 24th February 2025
Main duties of the job
In the initial few months of the placement, the aim will be to ensure that the successful candidate develops skills in gynaecological and early pregnancy ultrasound. Alongside this, they will continue work that has already been started on protocols and ethics applications for projects related to their proposed PhD.
Once they are in a position to commence recruitment and data collection, they will do so alongside providing the clinical service required. They will usually be given one day each week, when they are surplus to the requirements of the unit for service provision, in order to focus on research alone.
They will also be expected to take a leading role amongst the fellows in the department. This will include helping to manage the fellow's rota, organising research meetings, and also helping to train future new starters in scanning.
