Job summary

This post is an exciting collaboration with the Duchenne Research Foundation, Newcastle University and the Queen Square Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases. The post holder will be based within the Neuropsychology Department of the National Hospital. It is one of the largest Neuropsychology Departments in Britain and has long had an international reputation for its clinical service and its research.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the PI and Newcastle team to evaluate and develop psychosocial intervention for patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and their families. This post is ideal for someone with research interests and clinical interest in working with individuals and families. There will be opportunity for involvement in multi-disciplinary research and teaching programmes.

The position is ideal for someone wanting to develop a career in physical health.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent) as recognised by the Health and Care Professions Council
  • BA Hons or BSc Hons in Clinical Psychology recognised by the BPS and HCPC
  • Health and Care Professions Council registration as Clinical Psychologist
  • Doctoral/MSc level knowledge of psychological research methodology and complex statistical analysis.

Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in model of psychological theory (e.g., CBT, systemic, ACT) as applied to health settings.

Experience

Essential

  • Preparing work for dissemination (e.g., paper for publication, conference poster presentation, oral conference presentation).

Desirable

  • Working with people with physical health problems in hospital and community settings as part of an MDT
  • Delivering psychological treatment in community, outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Working with patients with neuromuscular disease or other life limiting illnesses
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of adults with neurodevelopmental conditions and/or learning difficulties or willingness to learn.
  • Leading service design and evaluation projects and leading service developments
