An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive 10 PA Consultant Medical Microbiologist due to retirement of a colleague to start January 2025 to join a team of dynamic Consultants at UCLH.
This post is extremely varied and will give the post-holder an opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of infection liaison activities.
The main activities are:o Contributing to the clinical infection service for OPAT (outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy)o Microbiology Lead for TB services at UCLH with contribution to weekly NCL South Hub TB MDTo Lead for oversight and development of the Moorfields' microbiology serviceo Contributing to the Consultant general clinical microbiology service through leading on the daily bacteraemia / complex case meetingo Contributing to a number of multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings in combination with infectious diseases colleagues (see later for detail).

Main duties of the job
The job plan is expected to comprise 10 PAs per week on average including the on-call commitment (8.0 PAs Direct Clinical Care and up to 2.0 PAs Supporting Professional Activities).
The appointee to this post will have a leading role contributing to the clinical infection service for the OPAT service.
The post holder will be lead microbiologist for TB services at UCLH which includes collation of new results, weekly attendance at the weekly North Central London South Hub MDT and managing TB incidents with close liaison with infection control, occupational health, TB nurses and local health protection units.
They will also lead for oversight and development of the Moorfields' eye hospital microbiology service contributing to service improvement activities and liaison with the laboratory.
They will also contribute microbiology advice for the following MDT meetings:o diabetic foot infectiono complex lung and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infectiono skull-based infectiono infectious diseases / radiology
To help support this work, the post holder will contribute to key laboratory governance activities including attendance at laboratory working groups for the mycobacterial and Moorfields bench.
The appointee will be required to participate in the consultant on-call rota (Cat. B) for weekdays and weekends. There is a rota for specialty registrars who are first on call. The frequency of the Consultant rota for this post is 1 in 9 and is considered to be of low frequency.

- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
