This job is now closed

Job summary

The Surgical Specialities Division is looking for a driven and dynamic Thoracic Clinical Fellow (SPR level) to join the Thoracic Surgery department at UCLH. We encourage applications from candidates who are interested in joining our hardworking and highly ambitious team of surgeons.

This post is a 1 year fixed term position (providing maternity leave cover) commencing 1st October 2024.

The Thoracic Surgery service is based in UCLH at Westmoreland Street Hospital and offers comprehensive care for the whole spectrum of thoracic patients.

Main duties of the job

The Thoracic service serves the population of North Central London and the team regularly carry out clinics in our partner hospitals to ensure that patients have access to timely, local care. The team is involved in all of the lung cancer MDTs across the network. 60% of the surgery is carried out by minimally invasive means: There is a VATS lobectomy programme, a Robotic surgical list and a tracheal resection service.

Within the rota there is time that is set aside for attending clinics. Clinical Fellows may be asked to undertake clinics at other times in the rota. You are expected to maintain satisfactory patient notes, to write discharge letters and summaries.

The successful candidate will be engaged and motivated to contribute to the wider activities of the Thoracic Surgery department. This may include organising and undertaking presentations at departmental meetings, and supervising SHOs in preparation for their presentations.
