Deputy Lead Medicines Management Technician – Cancer Services

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacy technician to join our lively, progressive and dynamic pharmacy team. Our ideal candidate will be:

  • Interested in helping us develop and deliver our vision for a patient-focussed clinical pharmacy service
  • Able to drive divisional and departmental clinical governance issues, clinical audit, practice research, service improvement projects and more
  • Keen to further their career within cancer services

You will be a registered pharmacy technician with extensive post-qualification experience in a hospital setting, including broad experience of delivering pharmacy services with a patient-focussed approach.

Main duties of the job

The main day to day responsibilities would include:

  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of, and support the development of, clinical pharmacy services to cancer patients
  • Manage Medicine Management Pharmacy Technicians delivering clinical pharmacy services to cancer patients
  • Provide safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines to cancer patients
  • Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and undertake an active role in the safe provision of medicines to cancer patients

  • The post holder will form part of the senior Cancer Pharmacy Technician team together with the Lead Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician for Cancer Services and will contribute to setting, prioritising, and monitoring the team objectives.
  • The post holder will co-ordinate and develop the clinical pharmacy technician service for Cancer Services, in accordance with the priorities agreed between the post holder, and the Lead Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician for Cancer Services in order to ensure safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines in these patients.
  • The post holder will manage the team of pharmacy technicians delivering clinical pharmacy services to cancer patients being treated in all clinical areas at UCLH.
  • The post holder will work in close collaboration with senior pharmacy technicians, senior nursing staff, senior pharmacists, and senior management to ensure delivery against divisional and institutional objectives.
  • Review and counsel patients in the Neurology Oncology (CNS) clinic in line with the established framework.
  • The post holder will undertake and contribute to practice research in accordance with the research agenda in Cancer Services.
