Job summary
An SpR-level (ST3+) Clinical Research Fellow in Lymphoma is required at the Department of Haematology, University College London Hospital to join the team from August 2024. The Research Fellow will be based within the lymphoma team at UCLH and the CR-UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre - CTC.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop specialist training in the design and conduct of lymphoma clinical trials and to develop skills in the management of patients with lymphoproliferative disorders within one of the largest haematology departments in Europe.
The post will commence from August 2024 for up to 24 months.
Main duties of the job
In the CTC the Clinical Fellow will work closely with the senior trial coordinators & statisticians writing grant applications, developing protocols, assisting with adverse event reporting, reviewing trial eligibility, writing papers for presentation & publication & delivering teaching & training to the CTC staff.
The Clinical Fellow will take an active role within the national Lymphoma subgroup committees helping to design & deliver the national portfolio of lymphoma trials.This is a rare opportunity to get hands on learning into how trials are developed & conducted.
Previous fellows have had the opportunity to present trial data at major international conferences (EHA/ASH), have gained first author publications & now lead or take critical roles in UK academic clinical trials.
Within the haematology department at UCLH the post holder will further develop expertise in all aspects of the clinical management of patients with lymphoproliferative disorders & will be an integral member of a large clinical team delivering world class care to patients with lymphoma. They will attend 2 clinics & 1 MDT per week & will be expected to lead on delivery of internal research projects.
This post will provide excellent opportunities for a self-motivated trainee who already has registrar-level experience of lymphoma clinical management & some research experience to gain further research & clinical experience that will help them to develop their CV & enhance their career.

The Surgery and Cancer Board, led by Medical Director Professor Geoff Bellingan, provides services based in the UCH Tower, UCH at Westmoreland Street and the UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre, with 5 divisions, each with a Divisional Clinical Director and Divisional Manager: Cancer, Surgical specialties, Gastrointestinal services, Imaging and Theatres and Anesthesia
The UCLH Lymphoma Service is a dynamic tertiary referral unit providing specialist care for patients with all types Lymphoma. The lymphoma service is the busiest in the UK and has 10 dedicated consultants, 5 clinical nurse specialists and a large supporting clinical trials team. We collaborate closely with the UCLH CAR-T, laboratory and transplant services and run a broad portfolio of clinical trials. We are involved in academic research on a national level as part of the NCRI Lymphoma Subgroup and have close links with academic colleagues carrying out translational research in the UCL Cancer Institute. We also collaborate closely with colleagues in Europe, USA, Australia.
CR UK and UCL Cancer Trials Centre
The Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC) is a UKCRC registered Clinical Trials Unit. It is one of the largest cancer trials centres in the UK, with more than 115 members of staff. The CTC conducts clinical studies in oncology, both nationally and internationally, with a cross-disciplinary approach to develop modern treatments such as novel biotherapeutics, and investigate methods of diagnosis.
The haematology team is the largest group at CTC and one of the main lymphoma trials groups within the UK, with a selection of trials covering almost all types of lymphoma and ranging from phase I (including a large portfolio of CAR-T studies) to practice changing phase III trials such as the RATHL study.
