Job summary

We are looking for a Practice Educator in Ultrasound (US) to join our progressive Imaging Academy team, hosted by UCLH Imaging service.

The role is a 12 month fixed term contract working 37.5 hours per week

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, highly motivated, dedicated & experienced radiographer to become our practice educator to help support and develop US training across the North Central London (NCL) Imaging Network.

You must have outstanding communication skills and a passion for Education. The post holder will lead on and support delivery of US training to radiographers across the 7 Trusts in the North Central London (NCL). You will be responsible for developing innovative methods of training and assessment, including simulation.

The Practice Educator will be part of a team of Practice Educators in NCL and will be a pivotal facet of the NCL Imaging Academy, based at UCLH and, for US, also at Finchley Memorial Community Diagnostic Centre.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as a lead educator in US within UCLH and the NCL Imaging Network.
  • Be a tangible link between North Central London (NCL) Trusts and to liaise with equivalent staff in other spokes of the academy within London and potentially across the UK.
  • Report into the NCL Workforce and Academy Meetings on the progress of the Ultrasound Modality Group, as required.
  • Support the Imaging Academy Manager in developing monthly reports for the NCL Imaging Workforce and Academy Group, which in turn reports into the NCL Imaging Board. Regionally, the NCL Imaging Academy is part of the London Imaging Academy, which provides regional leadership and direction as part of a hub and spoke model.
  • To contribute to the development and update of policies, protocols and guidelines to support the services as required.
  • To demonstrate awareness and compliance with Trust policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. This will include identification of risk.
  • Provide clinical supervision and work-based learning to all trainees from the imaging workforce.
  • To assess quality of the clinical and other practice learning environments and propose interventions for improvement.
  • Co-chair the NCL Ultrasound Modality Group, ensuring there is a focus on learning, development and education

NCL Imaging Network operates collaboratively as an imaging community to ensure the population of NCL have access to high quality, timely, and equitable access to imaging to support better patient outcomes. The imaging workforce of NCL are supported by the NCL Imaging Academy training and development programme which is widely accessible to all member Trusts. Essential

  • BSc in diagnostic radiography or equivalent and relevant Masters degree or equivalent
  • HCPC/IPEM State Registration
  • Portfolio of evidence of Continuing Professional Development including post graduate specialist training in medical ultrasound
  • Proven and current experience of highly specialised radiographer practice underpinned by theory (acquired through degree, post graduate study and significant experience in a specialist field of radiography).

Desirable

  • A formal teaching qualification/ commitment to commence a recognised course of study to achieve a teaching qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable evidence of a wide range of general radiographic experience and techniques
  • Evidence of signifiant clinical experience as a radiographer within US.
  • Contemporary knowledge of diagnostic imaging (theory and practice).
  • Experience of mentoring trainee radiographers within a modality.
  • Delivery of education and training within a clinical area.
