Job summary
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated nurse to become part of the Research Nursing Team at the National Institute for Health Research UCLH Clinical Research Facility (CRF). The research nursing team in the CRF provide exceptional specialist nursing care to a wide variety of patients taking part in early phase clinical trials of experimental cancer and medicine treatments. This includes First-in-Human medicines and experimental early phase treatments in Oncology, Haematology, Neurology and Medicine; and Vaccine studies.
Main duties of the job
The Band 7 post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination and management of early phase clinical trials associated with multiple malignancies and diseases within the Clinical Research Facility. Responsibilities will include coordination of care of patients and on trials/studies, collection and preparation of biological samples, collection of trial data, the administration of experimental agents and monitoring of the expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities. Educating participants and colleagues about the studies is essential to the role. The post holder will be expected to build upon their specialized skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of research and clinical trials, the therapies and the relevant diseases. The post holder will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patient's advocate and will be working within a growing team of research nurses, data managers, clinical trial coordinators and laboratory personnel based within the CRF.
Candidates must have relevant research experience, in addition to recent clinical cancer experience. A strong nursing background with cancer experience and skills in clinical research as well as a desire to develop others are required for this post, but in return opportunities for further professional development will be available.
