Job summary

The post holder will join the core team of SHB to support the Head of Nursing and provide forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within the Board. The role will have a particular focus on supporting operational delivery and improvement across the Board, working with divisional leads to ensure that care is delivered to a high standard and that resources are managed effectively. The postholder will work with the Head of Nursing to deliver specific pieces of work in line with the corporate nursing and midwifery strategy, ensuring achievement of its objectives and proactively modernising nursing roles in accordance with the needs of patients. They will work with teams across the Board to provide senior nursing professional input, and support the professional development of senior nursing staff in collaboration with divisional colleagues.

Main duties of the job

  • In conjunction with the SHB Core team, lead the development and achievement of an organisational culture where staff feel valued, supported, involved, engaged and empowered to deliver safe, high quality care whilst upholding all the Trust's values.
  • Work with the Head of Nursing, SHB to ensure the professional development of nursing staff within the Specialist Hospitals Board and ensure that the workforce are compliant with mandatory training and have access to further continuing development to undertake their roles.
  • Maintain effective communication links with colleagues across the Board, including senior nurses, specialist nurses, core team members and those in other boards/corporate teams.
  • Ensure there are effective forums for senior nurses, sisters, nurse specialists and other nursing staff
  • Monitor progress towards achievement of Nursing and Midwifery Strategy objectives within the Board in collaboration with the Head of Nursing.
  • Work with divisional colleagues to ensure appropriate quality, environmental and general clinical governance processes are in place, including where appropriate oversight of audits.
  • Undertake audit as required to support the Board's service developments

  • Ensure appropriate escalation policies are in place to enhance safety and to facilitate the timely flow of patients through the Boards services.
  • Provide expert nursing advice to members of the Board and Divisions on service improvement work
