Job summary

The Trust is a major provider of healthcare in North London. In addition to the University College London Hospital NHS Trust, it includes the Royal National Ear, Nose, Throat & Eastman Dental Hospital (RNENT&EDH) in Huntley Street. Close links are maintained with and University College Medical School (University College London).

The Sleep Study Unit is responsible for sleep diagnostics and therapy services on the RNENT&EDH site, including CPAP clinics and carrying out overnight polysomnography and home sleep studies.

The RNENT&EDH is closely associated with sleep services within Respiratory Medicine - UCH, National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery.

Main duties of the job

  • To take the lead responsibility for delivering home sleep studies at the RNENT&EDH
  • To take part in delivering overnight polysomnographic studies
  • To support CPAP follow-up clinics
  • To be responsive to the needs of patients having particular regard to adequately training them in the use of sleep study medical devices
  • To have and maintain a sound understanding of current UK and European safety legislation, in particular those relating to medical equipment
  • To contribute to the department's quality procedures
  • To take responsibility for ordering overnight polysomnography materials, stock management and financial management (including consumables and equipment held as stock items for the Sleep Study Unit)

Qualifications/Education

Essential

  • Degree in a scientific subject OR a professional qualification in a related field such as nursing or physiotherapy, healthcare science
  • A professional qualification in a related field such as nursing or physiotherapy, healthcare science

Professional/Statutory Registration

Desirable

  • Registration with a voluntary body such as RCCP
  • Membership with ARTP

Previous experience

Essential

  • Experience of clinical contact with patients and/or the public

Desirable

  • Previous experience of sleep investigations and interventions such as PSG, CPAP, Oximetry
  • Experience of performing physiological measurements on the paediatric population
  • Experience of delivering education or instruction to individuals and/or groups

Skills/Knowledge/Ability

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong IT skills including significant experience of Word and Excel
  • Good basic knowledge of sleep disorders and interventions

Desirable

  • Qualifications in IT programs such as Word or Excel - Knowledge of UCLH systems (EPIC)
  • Evidence of study days within speciality
