Job summary
We are recruiting Senior Clinical Fellows (ST5+ equivalent) in Critical Care Medicine who have a special interest in research focused on echocardiography and ultrasound. This post is designed for applicants with a strong background in research who want to play an active role in multidisciplinary research.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will have the opportunity to take part in the EchoLab, a growing echo and ultrasound research program at UCLH based around critical care and perioperative medicine that endeavours to further our understanding in the assessment and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, as well as to bring newer techniques to the department. With many active research already on the way, the EchoLab gives an opportunity to perform retrospective as well as prospective work, and to interact with experts in different fields such as Professor Mervyn Singer or Dr Nish Arulkumaran.
Previous candidates have joined ongoing research and others have used the fellowship to develop their initial work prior to apply for their PhD.

Fellows will work as part of multi-disciplinary team providing cutting edge precision intensive and high dependency care to a wide variety of general and specialist patients.
This post will be an opportunity to be part of an innovative multidisciplinary team working with general medical and surgical patients but also specialist services suggest as haematology (including TTP/HUS, HaemOncology, HLH, and CAR-T cell therapies), oncology, infectious disease and Cancer Surgery.
The postholder will take part in the clinical rota, with clinical work making 50% of the workload, the remaining time being dedicated to fellowship activities. The rota is fully compliant with national terms and meets the requirements for national training programmes. All doctors whether in a training programme have access to the same training and educational opportunities and bespoke individualised training is possible after discussion with Educational Supervisor.
The fellowship is crafted to extend learning opportunities far beyond the traditional boundaries of both the Critical Care and Anaesthetic curricula and as such offers successful candidates both time and scope for wide-ranging professional development.
Complementing these activities Fellows will be involved in service evaluation and development, each working formally with colleagues in other specialties to ensure optimal patient management in line with the Faculty of Intensive Care and Royal College of Anaesthetists.
Other non-clinical activities include:
- To participate in medical audit
- To participate in the education and supervision of medical trainees and other staff
- Critical care echocardiography
