Rotational Band 6 Physiotherapist - Specialising in Neurosciences (Substantive)
The Physiotherapy team is highly regarded within Therapy and Rehabilitation Services at National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Band 6 physiotherapist to join Therapy and Rehabilitation services.
Main duties of the job
All Band 6 PT staff work with well-established interdisciplinary teams and rotate through specialised service areas including the Neuro Rehabilitation Unit, Intensive Upper Limb Rehabilitation Service, Neuro out-patients and Neuro in-patients, (including Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Stroke Services - HASU & ASU).
Band 6 rotations are for 9 months and offer the opportunity to develop skills in the assessment and management of patients with a wide range of complex and rare neurological disabilities. You must have a substantive postgraduate experience in a physical, neurological setting.
Effective communication and a positive approach to the management of complex disability are essential.
Regular supervision and support for continued professional development is offered, as is the opportunity to work on projects within your peer group.

Essential
- Degree/ or equivalent in Physiotherapy
- Registered Physiotherapist (HPC)
- Evidence of attendance on specialist Post graduate neurosciences courses (e.g. Normal movement)
- Active member of a neurosciences interest group
Desirable
- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

- Broad post-graduate experience at appointment, of which 6 months is specific neurosciences post graduate experience
- Proven experience and competence in assessing and treating a variety of neuroscience patients
- Documented evidence of continuing professional development
- Evidence of having worked unsupervised on an emergency on call and weekend rota assessing and treating patients with deteriorating respiratory and neurological status
- Evidence of active participation in in-service training programmes
Desirable
- Involvement in undergraduate training of student physiotherapists
- Evidence of participation in research and audit.

- Demonstrate good time management, prioritising and changing plans as appropriate to allow for day to day changes in staffing and patients conditions
- Ability to work efficiently, effectively and professionally within the MDT
- Evidence of initiative
- Demonstrates understanding of principles and practice or Clinical Governance e.g. health and safety and risk management.
- Evidence of concise written communication. Awareness of need for confidentiality and issues of consent.
- Interest in research
