Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant General Manager as part of the expansion of Paediatric and Adolescent Services at University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will be responsible for managing unique services and providing strategic leadership to deliver division wide strategic priorities such as expansion into new wards and development of newer services. Services include the Lighthouse for those that have suffered sexual abuse, RESPOND services for asylum seeking refugees, Psychological services, ONWARD adolescent services and Red Cell services.
The postholder will be working closely with all relevant clinical teams to ensure services are delivered effectively and safely. They will provide key support to the Operations Manager at the Lighthouse and the Paediatric and Adolescent Division and offer service, performance and strategic management as well as quality improvement expertise.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide visible and active senior service management support to the Paediatric & Adolescent Division and offer senior project management and service improvement expertise. This will include engaging with clinical teams and support services. Services that are managed include:
o The Lighthouse service for Children and Young People who have experienced sexual abuseo The RESPOND health service for the asylum seeking refugee communityo The ONWARD Adolescent Serviceo Psychological services including Psychiatry, Psychology and Psychotherapyo Red Cell services
They will- support delivery of strategic projects, e.g. development of an equality, diversity and inclusion plan and others.- provide senior operational support so that services are clinically effective, safe and financially sound, through excellent human resource, financial and performance management, and leadership of change management to achieve improvement in process and patient outcomes.- together with their senior managers, take responsibility for the monitoring and delivery of key quality and performance standards- be responsible for meeting divisional objectives and strategic corporate objectives of the organisation and provide leadership and management support to staff within their areas of management.- deputise, where appropriate for the Lighthouse Operational Manager and General Manager in their absence.

Paediatric and Adolescent DivisionThe Paediatric & Adolescent division, together with Womens Health, Queen Square division, the Heart Hospital, the Eastman Dental Hospital and the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear hospital form the Specialist Hospitals Clinical Board.
The paediatric and adolescent division covers over 30 specialties and employs approximately 400 staff to deliver local, secondary, tertiary and quaternary care for children and young people. The specialities are organised into reporting units such as General Paediatrics and Adolescents, Children and Young Peoples Cancer, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Adolescent Endocrinology and Diabetes, Adolescent Medicine and a number of specialist services.
The Lighthouse ServiceThe Lighthouse is a specialist service within the Paediatric and Adolescent Division. It is the first UK Child House, a multi-professional, child-centred and trauma-informed service for children and young people who have experienced child sexual abuse and a national leader in the field. The Lighthouse provides a holistic health assessment, physical and mental health support, advocacy and police interviews led by clinical psychologists. This child-centred model has had proven success abroad, in particular Iceland, where there is evidence of increased convictions and improved health and well-being for children and young people.
The Lighthouse TeamThe service is jointly managed by the Lighthouse Operational Manager and the Clinical Lead. The Lighthouse service includes a CAMHS team of therapists (including Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrist, CAMHS practitioners), Lived Experience Consultant, Paediatricians, Clinical Nurse Specialist for sexual health, Child and Family Practitioners, Play Specialist, and access to Letting the Future In practitioners (NSPCC) in the Lighthouse.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Deliver the service objectives as agreed with the Lighthouse Operations Manager, Paediatric & Adolescent clinical leadership and in line with UCLH Trust objectives on a day-to-day basis. Objectives will be agreed, and the post holder will decide how these should be delivered operationally
- Ensure the smooth running of all day-to-day operational aspects of the service, deputising and covering for colleagues, including the admin coordinator, during sickness and annual leave as necessary
- Ensure that the service is delivered in a timely, efficient, safe, and effective manner, identifying issues, their consequences and escalating them as appropriate
- Lead on, and coordinate delivery of change programmes for the development of the service and administration processes, e.g., IT and electronic patient record system transformation.
- To have robust knowledge of electronic patient record systems, performance reporting systems and management systems
- Design and implement audit systems to evaluate data quality and timeliness with responsibility to initiate audits as required.
- Develop systems to collect and analyse data for performance reporting internally and externally.
- To be responsible for the production, analysis, and presentation of a range of routine and ad hoc performance, business reports, ensuring that information provided is timely, relevant and accurate.
