Senior Fellowship in Paediatric/TYA Oncology

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Senior Fellowship in Paediatric/Teenage Young Adult (TYA) Oncology at UCLH. The post will run for up to 24 months (October 2023 - September 2025). This is a 40-hour post (Monday to Friday) and there is no on-call commitment. This post is aimed at trainees who wish to develop further experience across a wide range of Paediatric/TYA Oncology as a bridge to becoming independent practitioners. The post is split between up to 12 months in the Children's and Young People's Cancer Services (CYPCS) at UCLH, and up to 12 months providing paediatric oncology support for the radiotherapy and Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) service.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a friendly team to provide an excellent service within UCL Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You will work under the supervision of a dedicated consultant team, and alongside a multi-disciplinary team which includes Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Specialist Radiographers, Allied Health Professionals, and Clinical Oncologists.

This post will be comprised of 80% clinical activity and 20% for special interest activities, including disease focused research, service development projects, leadership and management skills training.

As part of the job, you will have the chance to develop your independent practice in a variety of subspecialities:

  • Acute and chronic leukemias
  • Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas
  • Non-malignant haematology
  • Neuro-oncology
  • Sarcomas
  • Rare tumours
  • Bone Marrow Transplant (autologous and allogeneic)
  • CAR T cells therapy
  • Supportive care in radiotherapy/PBT

We also have a wide portfolio of clinical trials in all disease subtypes, and you will have the opportunity to be actively involved as a sub-investigator. We encourage any research interest, as well as work on audits and service improvement projects.

The TYA Service at UCLH is the largest in the world, attracting an international reputation, with regular visits from experts from around the globe. We provide comprehensive tertiary care for patients from diagnosis, through to survivorship or palliative care. We provide all aspects of state-of-the-art cancer care and are a quaternary centre for specific treatments, including radio-isotope therapy and proton beam therapy. The clinical service is enhanced by exceptional clinical and translational research based within University College London and the Institute of Child Health.

All patients aged 0-18 years with a diagnosis of cancer, within the North Thames TYA Cancer Network are referred into the UCLH/GOSH Principal Treatment Centre. Patients aged 19-24 years are offered the choice to be referred to UCLH or to be treated at local Designated Hospitals within the Operational Delivery Network (ODN).
