Job summary
Junior Clinical Fellow - Emergency Medicine
Starting ASAP
12-month fixed term contract (with potential to extend)
We have three questions for you:
1. Are you a dynamic, motivated doctor seeking a broad experience of inner-city emergency medicine at junior doctor level (ST1+)?
2. Can you demonstrate previous emergency medicine experience?
3. Does your work consistently uphold our trust values of safety, kindness, teamwork, and improving?
If you answered "yes" to all the above, then we want your contribution to our dedicated, friendly, team. Come to UCLH and help us deliver excellent emergency and urgent care.
Main duties of the job
Our junior clinical fellows come from a broad range of backgrounds but are typically looking to gain further experience in emergency medicine, taking time out between the foundation programme and specialty training, and working towards membership examinations or post-graduate diplomas and higher degrees.
We support this with a rota that has 20% of time allocated as non-clinical professional development days to work towards your career goals, averaging 17 days per 16-week rota cycle. These days can be used for teaching, audit, research, quality improvement, exam revision, or personal study.
The department has a strong educational and academic record with daily consultant supervised teaching sessions, which are recorded and available in an online classroom environment to catch up on past sessions. There is an extensive audit and quality improvement programme, with junior fellows allocated to projects that will support their individual career aspirations. A number of our junior fellows have recently published abstracts and presented posters to national and international conferences as a result of their quality improvement work.

Job description
Job responsibilities
You will be fully supported in your career progression with an allocated consultant educational supervisor and access to a study budget. The emergency department has a strong track record in junior fellows progressing to specialty training. For those not wishing to enter specialty training, there is opportunity for progression to our senior middle grade rota with many of our senior fellows choosing to stay with us for three years or more, sit FRCEM examinations and work towards specialist registration through the CESR route. We believe this serves as evidence that our emergency department senior team is friendly, supportive, and dedicated to providing great opportunities for education and professional development.
We are offering a fixed term appointment, starting as soon as possible, initially for 12 months but with potential to extend this. This post has a basic salary range of £37,068 - £48,637 per annum (dependant on previous experience) plus 50% supplement (band 1A) plus London weighting, giving a total salary range of £57,764 - £75,117 per annum. We know that doctors have lives outside of work, so we are positive about flexible and less than full-time working: talk to us if this is something you would like to consider.
Eligibility
You must have (essential): Full registration with the GMC; At least two years post-graduation clinical experience; At least three months experience in emergency medicine; Up-to-date certification in ALS or ACLS.
Candidates not fulfilling these essential criteria will not be shortlisted for interview.

Please see the person specification for full eligibility criteria.
Prospective Interview date: 11th October
PLEASE NOTE: Previous candidates need not apply. We do not engage with employment or locum agencies and do not consent to the addition of any UCLH employee to mailing lists, in accordance with GDPR. Any such communication will be reported to the Information Commissioners Office.
