Job summary

  • The post holder will play an instrumental role in supporting the Trust's Stop Smoking Service and strategy. The post holder will work as an advisor in the UCLH Smoking Cessation Service and work in line with national and local guidance and best practice adopting the Ottawa model of stop smoking care to support acutely admitted patients across the trust and in providing specific & individualized stop smoking support to pregnant women in a flexible and innovative way. The post holder will also work closely with the Smoke Free Midwife Champion and members of the maternity team to deliver the Smoke-free Pregnancy Project and provide regular feedback on smoking in pregnancy data and data in relation to the generalist smoker patient group.

You will work alongside the other Tobacco Dependency Advisors and report to the Project Manager.

Main duties of the job

  1. Delivering outpatient clinics and follow up appointments for maternity patients that smoke.
  2. Support 1:1 and group smoking cessation interventions
  3. Implement programmes of care, specifically implementation of the Ottawa Stop Smoking (in-house acute) model
  4. Follow systems and processes to allow staff and service users to access evidence based stop smoking interventions and record results
  5. Support wards to provide smoking cessation intervention
  6. Support building a culture whereby all service users are offered the opportunity to stop smoking and supported in this
  7. Provide NRT/Pharmacotherapy counselling
  8. Refer our patients to the local stop smoking service and follow up with patients over an 8 week period within their community
  9. Carry out carbon monoxide monitoring
  10. Support the recording, evaluation and reporting of data and monthly outcomes and KPIs
