Job summary
The Department of Urology at University College Hospital is looking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated full time locum (12m) Consultant Surgeon specializing in robotic cystectomy. The post holder will be part of the uro-oncology team focused on, but not limited to, preforming robotic cystectomy and robotic prostatectomy. The successful candidate will be joining the largest and most prestigious Urological Department in the UK. We are a highly specialist department seeing referrals from across the UK and abroad as well as being a centre for excellence and research.
You will be required to participate in the general consultant on-call rota (Category B) for weekdays and weekends. Emergency work arising from on-call duties will be taken into account in assessing the number of programmed activities for on-call in your agreed job plan. An on call availability supplement is payable for participation in the on call rota.
You will also be required to take part in the Pelvic on call rota.
The general on-call rota is at a frequency of 1 in 23 weeks. The general on-call rota is equitable across the specialty.
The pelvic on-call rota is at a frequency of 1 in 7 weeks.
Main duties of the job
The department offers comprehensive care for the whole spectrum of Urology services and is split into 6 sub-groups, the teams work together closely along with other services such as gynaecology, women's health, assisted conception unit, oncology and the Uro-radiology.
The subspecialty teams within the Urology Department are:
- Reconstructive Urology
- Function Female and Restorative Urology & Neuro-urology
- Adolescent Urology
- Stones (including Lithotripsy)
- Andrology
- Uro-oncology
You will have the opportunity to gain experience in providing pioneering new treatments and play a key role in ensuring excellent care for patients under the care of the department.
The post holder will provide a safe and effective service for prostate and bladder cancer patients. They will undertake theatre lists, clinics and other clinical activities. The post holder will lead on the management of inpatients and undertake on-call for the department as required.
