Job summary

Applications are invited for a 12 month Fellowship in Otology at the Royal National ENT & Eastman Dental Hospitals, within University College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This post is suitable for a post CCT Specialist Registrar with an interest in getting further specialist experience in Otology and Auditory Implants. The post is available from October 2024.

Working within Otology and the Auditory Implant Department at the Royal National, under the clinical supervision of Mr Sherif Khalil, there is an opportunity to gain experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of Otological conditions. This post will concentrate on complex otological surgery and implantology. We have an active research programme which will be focusing on Otological outcome measurements. The successful applicant will be strongly encouraged to participate in our ongoing research projects.

This full time post comprises 10 programmed activities. There will be on-call commitment supporting the SPR rota.

Main duties of the job

This fellowship post will be based mainly at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, however it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at University College Hospital and at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery.

Specific purpose of the post:

This post provides advanced otology and auditory implant surgery. This would suit a post-CCT trainee who would like to gain more experience in the field of otology and auditory implants. Previous extensive operative experience in this area would enhance the training opportunities for the successful applicant. This post is not recognised for training by the SAC in Otolaryngology but applications for recognition of training will be fully supported.

Over all purpose of job:

To assist in the provision of the high quality ENT services to the Trust patients including the development of the service. The successful candidate will be required to be actively involved in the otology research in the department and to participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care and to contribute to service developments. They will also be required to take part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
