Job summary

North Central London Cancer Alliance (NCLCA) is looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our new primary care team who working to improve cancer outcomes for the population of North Central London.

This is an exciting time to join the Alliance, as we implement our new primary care strategy, in collaboration with the newly formed North Central London Integrated Care System. NCL CA are making improvements for cancer in primary care across a number of

key areas:

o Reducing variation and health inequalities

o Basing cancer care practice on data and analytics

o Optimising cancer screening uptake

o Enhancing a culture of learning and development

o Creating a community of practice

o Contribute to the operational performance of the overall cancer pathway

NCLCA is a collaboration of NHS and other bodies, hosted by University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We work to promote early diagnosis, optimise pathways, reduce variation, provide personalised support for patients, and build service resilience. Patients and carers are at the heart of what we do.

We work in partnership with multiple NHS providers across primary and secondary care and with local authorities in North Central London (the Boroughs of Camden, Islington, Haringey, Barnet and Enfield)

Project Managers play a key role in the Alliance team, engaging with clinical, managerial, and operational staff in the sector, and overseeing a portfolio of projects. They are responsible for collaboratively working to promote cancer prevention, improve cancer pathways and increase cancer survival across the NCL Integrated Care System.

Main duties of the job

NCL have developed a Primary Care Cancer Strategy for 2022-25. This is influencing how we deliver improvements for cancer across a number of key areas:

o Reducing variating and health inequalities

o Basing cancer care practice on data and analytics

o Optimising cancer screening uptake

o Enhancing a culture of learning and development

o Creating a community of practice

o Contribute to the operational performance of the overall cancer pathway

The job holder will work on the following:

o Establishing and delivering an engagement programme on the cancer agenda

with primary care at a practice, PCN and place (borough) level.

o Manage specific NCL wide primary care cancer projects e.g.:

o Enhancing learning and development for cancer in primary care

oImproving and embedding data and analytics capabilities to support primary care

o Primary care improvement and transformation projects

This will involve a range of activities:

o Work with primary care programme team, NCL GP Cancer Leads, NCL ICB and other partner stakeholders to manage, co-ordinate and deliver engagement with primary care at a practice, PCN and place level.

o Development and fostering of successful relationships with primary care organisations at a practice, PCN and place level.

o Work with stakeholders to identify and agree improvements in the diagnosis and management of cancer within primary care at a practice, PCN and place level (e.g. reducing unwarranted variation in referral rates, increasing detection rates).

o Provide cross-cutting support for NCL CA interventions in primary care (e.g. early diagnosis, diagnosis and treatment, inequalities, and personalised care).

o Support the development and dissemination of data products and information to support evidence based decision making in primary care.

o Use quantitative and qualitative evidence to support all aspects of work.

o Provide cross-cutting support for NCL CA interventions in primary care e.g. early diagnosis, diagnosis and treatment, inequalities, and personalised care.

o Devise and manages specific QI projects.

o Escalate issues and facilitates successful solutions related to cancer and primary care.

o Manage the day-to-day work programme of the project support officer.

We are seeking someone with enthusiasm and skills in developing and supporting others which make you a compassionate and empowering team member. You will bring dynamism, positivity and a collaborative attitude to the NCL Cancer Alliance team.

You should strong relationship building qualities be able to engage with and influence multiple stakeholders across cancer services in North Central London. Experience of building effective cross-functional working relationships is essential. You must have experience of developing high-quality plans and a track record of successful project delivery. You will bring strong analytical skills, with the capability to analyse, review and make sense of highly complex, sensitive or contentious information across a diverse range of subjects related to cancer.

You will need highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written, and be adept at working with both qualitative and quantitative data.

You will become expert in cancer healthcare policy and assess and communicate the implications of this on local systems. You will have experience of helping to manage budgets and of managing risks, anticipating issues and creating solutions to problems.

This would be an excellent role for someone from primary care seeking strategic, system and programme experience, or someone with consultancy skills seeking operational exposure. Either way youll possess excellent interpersonal skills and will gain the trust of colleagues at all levels across multiple partner organisations. We are open to candidates with significant NHS experience, either from directly within an NHS organisation or working in consultancy for the NHS.
