The Hospital for Tropical Diseases (HTD) is seeking an experienced band 6 nurse for a (full time and part time) position in our expanding services in Infectious Diseases Outpatients.
The fixed term post holder will work predominately in the community but will be based at Outpatient Department, Hospital for Tropical Diseases. The post holder will provide a neutralising monoclonal antibody (nMAB) infusion to day case patient's in the Covid Medicine Delivery Unit (CMDU) or in the patients own home in the community.
The CMDU which is now part of HTD, gives new COVID-19 treatments for patients at the highest risk in the community This treatment involves administering intravenous infusion of neutralising monoclonal antibodies (nMABs) treatments, which are given to high-risk patients who have had a positive PCR test within the previous 5 days. The therapy is intended to prevent the development of severe disease.
Main duties of the job
This post will require some lone working in a community and clinic setting. The post holder will be expected to assess and administer intravenous therapy for patients under a Patient Specific Directive (PSD) in line with trust ANTT Policy and the local standard operating procedure (SOP)
The post holder must be proficient in venepuncture and cannulation.
The post holder will be accountable for assessing and interpreting the patient condition pre, peri and post infusion observing for any clinical deterioration and/or adverse reaction and acting accordingly.

Our team values teamwork and provides support for all team members. The Infection Division comprises of Infection Control; Floor 8 inpatients; Hospital for Tropical Diseases OPD; Travel Clinic; National Travel Health Network & Centre (NaTHNaC); and the TB service.
The Infection Division with the engagement of Inpatient (T8) and Outpatient (HTD) and non-clinical staff takes pride in being on top of the sustainability leadership ladder of the green reward campaign of the Trust supporting the net zero aim by 2030.
This vacancy would suit an experienced Band 6 nurse who is looking to develop their skills and knowledge in: Infusions, Covid-19 and the treatments used for Covid-19.

The post holder will also have the opportunity to work within the outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) services.
HTD on its 100th year, dates its origins to the old British Royal navy warship HMS Grampus, which in 1821 was turned into a floating hospital for the treatment of tropical and infectious Diseases. Since 1821 HTD has played a historical role in the development of modern medicine and dedicated to Tropical Medicine.HTD is a constantly evolving service which continuously provides new opportunities to expand experience and knowledge of the team with improvement projects, research and pilot projects.
