Job summary
As an Automation Analyst / Developer you will be responsible for the development of both robotic process automation (RPA) and wider automation solutions.
Primarily through the use of cloud-based Blue Prism automation tools and software, this post will assist the Trust in the delivery of cost-effective, risk-controlled, robust, reliable, responsive and secure automation solutions to assist the organisation in eliminating paper and improving efficiency.
This post will participate in all areas of the robotic automation development lifecycle including design, programming, versioning control, testing, documentation, technical implementation and deployment.
Main duties of the job
To follow the RPA Development Lifecycle:
- Communicate with project stakeholders across all levels of the organisation, discussing workflow processes and aspects of solution design with members of Service Management.
- Communicate technology issues in a non-technical way
- Develop effective process automations using Blue Prism Cloud together with a wider range of automation tools.
- Planning additions, deletions and minor modifications to process automations and interfaces to trust-wide infrastructure, implementing and managing the Change Control process to ensure ICT services are not adversely impacted.
- Implementing automation solutions in compliance with trust security policies.
- Ensuring automation applications offer high availability, all business data is secure, backed up, archived as appropriate, and that all critical systems comply with trust-wide business continuity plans.
- Maintain and demonstrate an up to date knowledge of industry developments and best practice standards.
To provide an efficient, reliable, responsive and timely automation development service by:
- Adhering to the Trust control framework based on industry and NHS best practice standards.
- Working with customers to write software specifications for sign-off by stakeholders.
- Monitoring and reporting upon performance and applying corrective action strategies as appropriate.
To manage technology infrastructure for robotic development by:
- Working closely with the project team
About us
This post is part of a newly established process automation group within UCLH which is dedicated to automating internal Trust processes in order to free up staff time for more patient facing tasks.
The team will be encouraged to look at individual process efficiency to identify and advise on improvements before automating any process.
The automation team will be working closely with SME's across the organisation to understand and map their processes as part of the preparation for automation, this requires good people skills and a willingness to discuss the benefits of automation.
This is a small team that will have a great impact on Trust efficiency and will require flexibility and co-operation to achieve overall team goals and deliver successful automations on time and to budget.

To fully document the target processes by producing a Process Description Document (PDD), which will become the working document for development and implementation of any automation.
To liaise with technical teams as required to ensure all automation interfaces with other Trust software systems are effective and compliant, and do not adversely affect the operation of those other systems.
To monitor the operation of the automations and report back on the effectiveness in terms of actual staff time released back to the organisation compared to the time initially expected to be released at planning stage.
To accurately record the time spent on individual automation development projects in order to accurately assess the cost effectiveness of the overall automation.
To maintain an up to date knowledge of automation tools and methodologies in order to remain effective in development, and able to advise on appropriate technical solutions.
To maintain, or work towards appropriate professional certifications in order to enhance your effectiveness and usefulness to the Automation team.
