Job summary

The Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM) invites applications for a Band 7 Therapist to work in the Insomnia and Behavioural Sleep Medicine Clinic.

We welcome applications from Allied Health Professionals, Nurses and Psychotherapists/Psychologists with training and experience in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Insomnia.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in the largest Insomnia treatment clinic in the United Kingdom and will take part in expanding the capacity of the clinic as well as expanding the range of disorders covered and treatments offered. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of a growing field of medicine. The post holder's main responsibilities will be to run cognitive behaviour therapy groups for insomnia and other sleep disorders and deliver individual therapy as appropriate. They will also work closely with other sleep services within the trust as well as with other clinicians in the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine.

The RLHIM is a national and international centre for evidence-based practice, education and research in integrated medicine. Its philosophy of holism, individualisation and integration of treatment uses a multidisciplinary approach to assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation using conventional skills together with complementary therapies.

The successful candidates will be expected to possess excellent interpersonal skills, good organizational abilities and a willingness to learn. A foundational knowledge of sleep medicine is essential. Apart from high level clinical skills the successful applicant will have vision and the willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team and assist in the development of clinical services. Clinics include some evening and Saturday clinics.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential

  • An Allied Health Professional Degree (14 HCPC registered) with Masters Degree or equivalent / Or NMC recognised Degree with Masters Degree or equivalent/ Or Accredited post-graduate qualification in CBT / Or Doctoral Level qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, with evidence of relevant work in a highly specialist clinical setting
  • Accreditation with HCPC / NMC / BABCP
  • Evidence of recent CPD activity relevant to this position

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of using highly specialist knowledge of CBT to treat Insomnia, and other disorders for which CBT is of proven efficacy.
  • Experience of using CBT for Insomnia with patients with co-morbid physical illness, including chronic fatigue syndrome and gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Experience of MDT working with agreed/specified service requirements.
  • Experience of using patient-reported outcome measures on a regular basis.
  • Experience of managing own caseload effectively.
  • Experience of conducting risk assessment within scope of practice.
  • Previous experience regarding quality standard setting, audit and evaluation.

Desirable

  • Experience of using CBT for Insomnia with patients with Medically Unexplained Symptoms.
