Job summary

The Lighthouse in Camden is looking to recruit child and family practitioner to join their team of social workers and ISVAs in supporting children across North Central London who have been impacted by child sexual abuse. If you are ready to develop your expertise in safeguarding, multidisciplinary working and interventions that support children's recovery from sexual abuse this exciting opportunity will enable you to be part of a unique and influential service that is changing the response to children who have been sexually abused in the UK. This post is open to qualified and professionally registered social workers, accredited ISVA's or others professionals with similar professional qualification in direct work with children who have been impacted by trauma or abuse.

Main duties of the job

The Lighthouse is the first UK Child's House, a multi-professional service for CYP who have experienced child sexual abuse and a national leader in the field: https://www.thelighthouse-london.org.uk/ The Lighthouse provides holistic health assessments and medicalsupport, emotional support and therapeutic interventions, advocacy through the criminal justice process and video recorded interviews led by clinical psychologists. We are passionate about promoting this proven child-centred way of working, increasing convictions and improving health and well-being of the child/young people and their careers. We want our shared experiences and research to inform service delivery and commissioning in England so every child has access to similar such services.

The role supports the routine activities involved in our duty system; offering support and advice to children carers and professionals around referrals, ensuring safeguarding oversight and risk management at referral stage and that safeguarding concerns have been escalated. The majority of the work will be undertaking integrated holistic multidisciplinary assessments and providing direct support and interventions to children and families attending the lighthouse. The role will work alongside the social workers, ISVA practitioners, CAMHS practitioners and our health team and in partnership with NSPCC therapeutic practitioners.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional social work qualification and current Social Work registration or ISVA accreditation with a recognized provider or similar professional qualification in direct work with children who have been impacted by trauma or abuse.
  • An understanding of sexual and domestic violence, trauma and the long-term mental health effects of sexual violence especially on children.
  • Knowledge of up to date Pan London child protection procedures and statutory guidance relating to multidisciplinary safeguarding.
  • An understanding of systems and barriers faced by vulnerable children in accessing services to support their experience of recovery from child sexual abuse particularly for black, Asian and minority ethnic groups.

Experience

  • At least two years' experience of post qualifying/training professional background in a children's service organisation.
  • Experience of undertaking assessments, care planning and direct work interventions with children and families.
