Digital Education Fellow in Emergency Medicine with PGCert (Education)

Job summary

Do you have a passion for education and an interest in technology? Are you a social media wizard? Applications are invited for a Digital Education Fellow in Emergency Medicine starting in August 2023 for a fixed term of 12 months with a 50% clinical and 50% education centred job.

We are seeking a registrar grade talented doctor, to lead, innovate and deliver the very best in next generation digital based education. No formal IT qualifications or coding experience are necessary but a strong interest in education, management skills and organisational ability will be key assets of the successful post holders. Experience with social media, vlogging and filming is desirable.

Main duties of the job

The post holder should be of registrar or equivalent grade in Emergency Medicine and fully registered with the GMC. We welcome trainees holding national training numbers as out-of-programme training experience (OOPE) or doctors looking for a standalone experience.

You will be supported to complete a fully funded PGCert in medical education with UCL. Applications for this will need to be made separately to UCL and subject to the University's admissions process. The deadline for this the end of August 2023.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This is fulltime role in the Emergency Department and jobs plans will be bespoke to the successful applicant.

The approximate split in the job plan will be 50% clinical and 50% education, with a weekend frequency of 1 in 6 in order to support successful completion of a fully funded modular PGCert in Medical Education at UCL subject to their application process. Details of how to apply for this will be supplied upon appointment in August 2023.

Salaries will be commensurate to the post-holders previous experience and subject to banding with London weighting. Overseas candidates will need to be registered with the GMC prior to commencing the post in August 2023 and supported through a certificate of sponsorship (CoS) process.

It is essential that you have experience leading a clinical shift as a senior registrar as you will be participating on our tier A rota as well as full paediatric, trauma and anaesthetic competencies.

Main duties of the Education Role

Be responsible for the planning, organisation and delivery of our internal ED education programme.

Analyse curriculum requirements to ensure that delivery is matched to the learning needs of our multidisciplinary team.

Collect feedback from each session electronically and use this to quality assure the programme.

To improve on the use of technology to deliver novel educational experiences.

To use the education platform to deliver key messages and enhance safety and clinical governance.

To work with the simulation leads to deliver at least twice monthly live-streamed micro-simulations in the ED.

To develop a comprehensive electronic resource or virtual classroom for trainees to access in their own time.

To present our work in international conferences and publish in peer reviewed journals.

Main duties of the Clinical Role

You will work at a senior registrar in the ED role participating in the tier A rota with approximately 1 in 6 weekends to allow sufficient time to complete your PGCert.

To work independently in all areas of the ED including the resuscitation room, majors, urgent treatment centre and paediatrics.

You will be responsible for reviewing patients seen by our junior medical team and complementing Consultant delivered care.

Deliver point-of-care teaching and support for our multi-stream trainees as well as career-grade doctors and ACPs.

You will be supported to develop your senior registrar leadership abilities with supported ESLEs and work-based assessments by our experienced Consultant trainers.

You will be encouraged to develop and fully sign-off your point-of-care ultrasound skills in line with the requirements set-out by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.

To engage with our research team in the ED, appropriately recruiting and supporting patients recruited to our studies.

To attend our weekly clinical governance meetings and participate and enhance your managerial and safety skills.
