Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Clinical Advisor (Paramedic or Nurse) to join our Clinical Hub within 999 Operations. In this vital role, you will deliver high-quality Hear & Treat telephone assessments, using your clinical expertise and professional judgement to ensure patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place. You will assess patients of all ages with a wide range of physical and mental health presentations, provide safe clinical advice, and direct patients to appropriate care pathways while minimising unnecessary hospital admissions. The role requires excellent communication skills, sound clinical decision-making, compassion, and the ability to work confidently in a fast-paced emergency call-centre environment, while also supporting and mentoring colleagues in line with Trust values of Caring, Respect and Teamwork. You will deliver safe, high-quality Hear & Treat telephone assessments for patients of all ages, using professional clinical judgement and approved clinical assessment software (Manchester Triage System - MTS). You will have to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including emergency call handlers, operational staff, GPs, hospitals, NHS 111 and other partner agencies, to ensure safe patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

Assess, triage, treat, diagnose, discharge and refer patients appropriately, identifying red flags and managing clinical risk in both acute and chronic conditions. Provide clear, accurate clinical advice, self-care guidance and targeted worsening advice, ensuring patients understand when and how to seek further help. Support patients to access the most appropriate care pathway, balancing clinical need with available service resources and minimising unnecessary hospital admissions. Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records in line with information governance and confidentiality requirements. Act independently within scope of practice, escalating concerns, safeguarding issues or service delivery risks to Clinical Support Managers when required. Demonstrate advanced communication, listening and probing skills, including managing complex, emotive or challenging calls and using language support services where needed. Provide mentorship, coaching and support to new and existing Clinical Advisors, contributing to learning, development and maintenance of high clinical standards. Participate in clinical supervision, audit, quality improvement activity and incident investigation to support clinical governance and service development. Work in accordance with Trust policies, professional codes (NMC/HCPC), safeguarding requirements, health and safety legislation, equality and diversity principles, and LAS values of Caring, Respect and Teamwork.
