Senior Graduate Finance Trainee

Job summary

This role is a senior training post within the finance department based in Financial Management.

The trainee will be working towards achieving a CCAB or equivalent qualification. Support will be provided to continue this work, including financial assistance, time off for study and access to a mentor within the department.

The postholder will receive a wide variety of experience, to support them to apply for roles with an NHS Trust on completion of the training scheme.

Main duties of the job

On a day to day basis the post holder will:

  • Ensure financial information is processed in accordance with Trust procedures and in order to provide information for statutory returns, through both the completion of own work and through the coordination of the work of others.
  • Implement policies and propose changes to practices, procedures for own area.
  • Investigate complex and sensitive financial enquiries, providing external assistance and advice to senior Trust management and clinical staff as required.

Job responsibilities

The principle duty of the role will be to assist the Finance Manager, Finance Business Partner and Chief Management Accountant in the provision of an expert management accounting service. During this role the trainee will acquire a broad range of practical management accounting experience. Regular tasks and duties would include:

  • Monitoring budgets or financial initiatives and developing or creating report to undertake this work
  • Using theoretical knowledge to ensure monthly accruals and prepayments are posted and accurate supporting documentation is maintained for these journals
  • Provide and receive complex or sensitive information from a variety of sources in order to produce variance analysis reports for budget holders and senior managers.
  • Supporting the Chief Management Accountant in the production of the Finance Report to the Board, including extracting and reviewing data from the Financial system.
  • Responding to queries from Budget Holders
  • Monitor and support non-finance users interaction with the Finance systems
  • Assisting in the preparation of business plans incorporating trend and risk analysis providing support to the decision making process across complex ranges of options
  • Assisting in the production of a monthly forecast of income and expenditure
