Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at London Ambulance Service for a Head of Financial Analytics to provide financial leadership on a range of Trust wide projects in this interesting and challenging role.

We are seeking a highly capable and experienced individual who will be a self-starter and motivated to be an active member of the Finance Directorate's leadership team, driving best practice across financial analytics and business development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will report to and work closely with the Deputy CFO to provide leadership and direction to improve the financial performance of the Trust. They will also provide leadership in the development of high quality financial and economic cases for business cases and service developments.

You will be joining a diverse and experienced LAS team who are committed to delivering high quality financial support to improve the Trust's financial position.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide leadership across the Finance Directorate on analytical support to business case development ensuring adherence to best practice costing and business case development.
  • Provide financial leadership to tender submissions and undertake financial analysis to support new business development.
  • To support financial implications of service reconfigurations.
  • Forward planning for updated financial/accounting guidance from NHS England, Department of Health & Social Care or Treasury. This includes updates to accounting standards and scenario modelling, ensuring any changes are reflected in Trust wide policies and procedures and communicated effectively to the wider organisation.
  • To interpret changes in Government Policy (including health policy and strategy) to assess the potential impact on the Trust and to specifically consider how any changes may create or limit current, planned or future strategy. This policy interpretation will guide the post holder when offering expert advice when setting the Trusts medium and long term financial planning activities.
  • Ensure that the Trust continues to implement national policies relating to finance in a way which maximises the financial benefit and stability of the organisation.
  • To be responsible for horizon scanning for best practice analytical and service improvement methodologies.
  • Be an expert user of SLR/PLICS and support the costing team to improve and evolve SLR/PLICS. Establish processes and a culture for the use of SLR/PLICS in everyday financial decision making.

Essential

  • CCAB recognised accountancy qualification
  • Significant post qualification experience in a senior accounting role gained ideally in a large audit firm and in a senior financial accounting role
  • An MBA or equivalent experience of managing part of the Finance function in a large service delivery organisation
  • Undertaken a variety of additional short courses to develop specialist knowledge

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of delivering a customer focussed service to ensure that the finance department matches the operational needs of the Trust.
  • Considerable experience of using computer based financial systems in a complex environment. Able to contribute to the ongoing development of financial systems and processes
  • Experience of negotiating and agreeing deadliness and standards and quality of work with other departments
  • Significant experience of managing, motivating and developing a team. Experience of setting objectives, carrying out staff appraisals, identifying training needs, mentoring and coaching staff. Experience of performance management including managing poor performance and sickness matters.

  • Specialist in technical accounting issues, the post holder must be able to demonstrate sound technical accounting knowledge. This must include the application of knowledge from IFRS
  • Able to demonstrate sound analytical skills with the ability to deal effectively with large quantities of complex data, both financial and non-financial and producing clear and understandable recommendations from it.
  • Good knowledge of the Trust, its aims, targets to be delivered, structures and activities
  • Experience of the NHS planning process and Tariff development including Payment by Results
