Job summary

We are looking for an individual to join our dynamic team, to train and become a registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

This rotational programme will include a placement with the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust and our training partner Bart's Health NHS Trust, St Bartholomew's Hospital, EC1A 7BE.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:

  • To undertake the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians Qualification.
  • Work on a rotational basis, gaining competencies and experience as defined by the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians Qualification. A practice/clinical supervisor will be allocated for each rotation and overall the education supervisor will manage the training programme.
  • Under the supervision of a Pharmacy Technician you will:
  • Agree learning objectives, collect evidence and be assessed by your assessor/expert witness in each rotation according to the training plan
  • Attend college once weekly and take responsibility to develop yourself in becoming competent in the required knowledge and skills
  • Collect evidence and prepare for assessments during work time

Undertake training on a rotational basis, in a wide range of duties which includes dispensing for inpatients and outpatients; supply of medicines to wards and departments; procurement and receipt of stock from suppliers and stock maintenance, and medicines optimisation

Desirable

  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent
  • A levels or evidence of further education

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in community or hospital pharmacy stock distribution and topup services.
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Interested in and have knowledge of the use of medicines
  • Understand the importance of quality issues
  • Good IT skills including data entry
  • Good Analytical skills
  • Good Communication skills (including verbal and written)

Desirable

  • Pharmaceutical environment experience

Knowledge

  • Ability to work as team member and work alone as required
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Logical reasoning & problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal skills
