Job summary
The Tactical Response Unit forms part of the response element of the Department for Resilience and Specialist Assets, which ensures that the London Ambulance Service prepares, trains and exercises for potential incidents and events.
Emerging threats over the past few years have led to the creation of the Tactical Response Unit who, alongside delivering high quality patient care on a day to day basis, receive additional training and equipment to be able to work as part of a multi-agency team to respond to specific firearms and other incidents, should the need arise.
The Tactical Response Unit also supports some of the wider Resilience functions at events and incidents.
Main duties of the job
Key elements of the role of a Paramedic within the Tactical Response Unit are:o Undertaking the full range of core operational duties on response cars and ambulanceso Working as part of a multi-agency team to deliver specific response capabilities in challenging environmentso Undertaking Joint Response Unit shifts as part of the partnership working with the Metropolitan Police Service, responding directly to Police generated callso Working as part of a Medical Response Team, responding in crowded places and at events and incidentso Supporting the wider Resilience & Specialist Assets Department through roles such as: Command Support Vehicle driver, Loggist, and SORT Operative
About us
You will need to be a Band 6 Paramedic by the closing date to apply.
While we will accept applications from those staff not already SORT and FRU trained,
successful applicants must have completed that training before taking up their role with TRU.
We will be recruiting for a pool of staff to allow for upcoming vacancies, so please be aware
that not all successful candidates will start straight away.

Essential
- HCPC registered Paramedic
- Minimum of two years' experience in emergency ambulance operations
- Full manual driving licence, valid in the UK including vehicle categories C1 and B (not B auto)
- Practice Educator (PEd with PEd modules 1 and 2 completed or commitment to work towards completion) or equivalent
Desirable
- Certificate in Practice Education or equivalent teaching/mentorship qualification
- FDg/ DipHE or BSc in Paramedic Science or relevant field of practice, or a clinically relevant extended practice qualification
Experience
Essential
- Commitment to CPD activity
- Successful completion of a Newly Qualified Paramedic programme with relevant post registration experience in a clinical, patient-facing role.
- Demonstrable and credible experience of working as team member and as a lone practitioner with the ability to work independently with confidence
