Job summary
The post holder will provide leadership and management to the office of the Director of Ambulance Operations (DAO), exercising a high level of discretion and authority in decision-making and actions to reduce the pressure on the time and workload of the Director and Deputy Director of Ambulance Operations. This is a key role in managing the strategic and day to day business of the Operations Directorate and will include oversight of the office functions and administration.
Main duties of the job
- To manage the business of the DAO and provide appropriate support to ensure agreed objectives are articulated and delivered through an efficient, high quality, confidential and timely service.
- Act as a point of contact for the DAO, liaising internally and externally with all levels of management, staff and organisations to national level and take decisions which impact upon the service in the absence of or on behalf of the DAO.
- Chair strategic and operational meetings in the absence of the DAO, and provide administrative support to nominated committees.
- Provide expertise to the DAO and their team on a range of areas, lead on the development and review of policies and procedures for the directorate and ensure compliance standards.
- Develop briefings for the DAO to inform them on aspects which directly involve them, ensuring the briefings contain all relevant information required for meetings and events, and contain any necessary background information which will assist in debate and decision making.
- Manage actions which arise from meetings that are assigned to the DAO and brief senior managers on required actions to be completed, secure updates and be responsible for ensuring actions are completed in their required timeframes and to accurate and appropriate standards
- Anticipate and identify the DAO's needs and concerns and ensure that appropriate action is taken without the DAO's instruction.
