Job summary

As a Governance Analyst within the Finance team, you will ensure consistent and effective project governance within our Trust, focusing on essential tasks such as Stage Gate Reviews, Project Initiation Documents and Closure Reports.

Reporting to the Head of Capital Finance and Chief Financial Accountant, you'll provide expertise in governance, audit, and assurance tracking. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you'll align projects with strategic objectives and drive continuous improvement.

The role will also advise project teams, ensuring governance of project baselines, and enhancing information quality. You'll deliver timely, accurate programme controls and information, identifying exceptions and trends.

Your proactive approach and strong communication skills will include facilitating difficult conversations with your colleagues to realign performance.

Main duties of the job

- Chairing the monthly project spend deep dive meetings (includes overview of project spend and governance tracking) alongside the Head of Capital Finance.

- Provide timely and well-informed advice on governance matters, collaborating with Finance and other colleagues throughout the Trust.

- As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Governance and Assurance, you will lead on communications and reporting to senior management and Directors through the Capital Programme Board (CPB) chaired by the Chief Finance Officer.

- Your role involves actively engaging with internal and external stakeholders on sensitive issues, using various communication mediums. You'll possess the authority to raise risks and issues, navigating opposing views through sensitive negotiations and effective people skills.

- The role requires flexibility and prioritisation skills, managing conflicting requests positively while maintaining focus. You'll lead in planning governance reporting outputs, advising on deviations from plans, and contributing to long-term risk analysis.

  • Prince 2 Foundation & Practitioner Certified
  • P3O or equivalent PMO certification

  • Experience presenting sensitive or potentially inflammatory information to senior managers or Executive team members
  • Understanding of Programme Governance structures, experience of establishing Programme and Project Boards and writing Terms of References
  • Extensive knowledge of PMO principles and change management
