Job summary

The Head of the Data Services team is responsible for the development, implementation and provision of business intelligence systems to provide accurate and timely information which supports the decision making throughout the Trust. As part of a small team this post plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the Trust has access to the required information to support business needs.

As the key expert of the data team, you will be responsible for ensuring high standards of data warehouse development and maintenance. You will be responsible for managing a team of data warehouse developers. This supports management decision making across the Trust both in terms of influencing strategic and operational delivery which enables high quality clinical care, and ensuring that internal and external reporting obligations are met.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the role will include:

  • Acting as an architectural and strategic lead in the development and maintenance of data solutions and systems.
  • Managing the Data Solutions team, implementing standards and process for technical solution delivery.
  • Providing expert technical advice in software development tools ensuring compliance and consistency with Trust standards through technical design groups.
  • Ensuring that the Trust complies technically with the need for wider sharing of NHS data.
  • Contributing to national and regional discussions on data sharing capability.
  • Providing the Trust with decision support system platforms.
  • Leading and delivering on technical delivery of data systems to support the digital and wider Trust strategic objectives.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or similar technical subject or equivalent experience
  • Post graduate management qualification/training or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of up-to-date personal and professional development with some evidence of technical industry qualification

Desirable

  • Project management qualification such as Prince 2, MPS

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable recent or current senior management experience at the same or similar level in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrable experience of budget setting and accounting
  • Demonstrable experience of project management
  • Experience of managing the response to a range of emergency situations and maintaining service delivery
  • Improving operational performance through delivery of systems capable of accurate and timely data to ensure enhanced decision making
  • Demonstrable experience in leading implementation and delivery of high profile, significant technical projects
  • Demonstrable experience of being a key technical resource for architecture implementation for large scale, complex data solutions and being the responsible owner for the solution
  • Well practiced in being able to collate business requirements and transform them into solutions/applications which meet the needs of many users across multiple departments

  • PowerBI implementation - knowledge of on-prem and cloud facilities
  • Knowledge of batch scripting and Powershell
  • Expert in modelling data for large scale environments with knowledge of dimensional modelling, lake house methods and data lake
  • Have a good understanding of IT infrastructure for Network and Server based technologies with the ability to engage with technical teams in these areas
  • 1 or more programming languages/ frameworks .NET, c#, vb, python
