Job summary

Working within the Clinical Audit and Research Unit, the Clinical Data Scientist will be responsible for undertaking robust data analytics and modelling. Using mathematical, statistical and research techniques, the Clinical Data Scientist will interrogate complex data sets and effectively model and analyse a range of statistical information to provide evidence about the delivery and effectiveness of the clinical care provided by theLondon Ambulance Service. They will provide the information and recommendations to improve clinical care, assist with clinical and strategic decision-making, and inform prehospital clinical practices and guidelines. They will also facilitate the collection, sharing, utilisation and visualisation of clinical data to support the delivery of clinical trials and other projects as needed.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide comprehensive statistical information, and robust analytics , about the quality and delivery of patient care, including the effectiveness of treatment options and pathways.
  • To interrogate complex data sets in order to identify trends, good practice and areas of concern.
  • Use mathematical, statistical and research techniques to effectively model and analyse a variety of statistical information, and make recommendations to improve clinical care.
  • To translate analytical findings to inform clinical and strategic decision making, and prehospital clinical practices.
  • Facilitate the collection, sharing, utilisation and visualisation of clinical data.
  • Communicate findings both internally, as well as externally, contributing to publications in peer-reviewed academic journals and conference presentations.
  • Support research and clinical audit project design and data acquisition.

  • Master's degree in computer science, data science or a similar discipline

Experience

Essential

  • Experience and expertise in conducting thorough data analysis, mining and modelling in a work environment.
  • Extensive experience of producing, analysing and interpreting data information in a work environment, including manipulating data sets, statistical inference, utilising machine learning techniques' determining relationships and making recommendations.
  • Extensive experience of working with complex, conflicting and contentious information.
  • Experience of using databases in SQL Server in a work environment (including creating complex queries using structured query language to extract data and create reports)

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques, simulation, optimisation and advanced multivariate statistics
  • Proficiency in one or more computer programming language (preference for R, or Python)
  • Able to develop apps and forms to facilitate data collection
  • Ability to extract information from databases/datasets to help understand a process or solve a problem and make informed recommendations based on detailed data insight
  • Ability to scope, develop and tailor decision support tools to meet users specification and requirements
  • Excellent numerical and statistical skills
  • Confidence in adapting to new software and programming languages
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of people internally and externally, including ambulance service and hospital staff, clinicians and academics
  • Able to write in a range of styles from academic papers for publication in scientific journals to popular reports and magazine articles
  • Ability to concentrate when carrying out detailed analysis over sustained periods
