Job summary

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Head of Medical Devices to join our team within Operational Compliance and Standards.

We are looking for an experienced individual to provide leadership in the highly specialised field of Medical Device Management within London Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

The Head of Medical Devices will be the professional and technical lead for strategic development of Medical Device services, including policy, compliance, training and development of replacement programmes. They will have overall responsibility for the maintenance, reliability and accuracy of the medical device records database for the Trust, Integrated Care Systems (ICS) and healthcare partners, the service provided holds a direct relationship with patient care.

Main duties of the job

  • Strategic lead and expert role in all medical device related aspects of the Trusts business, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and national policies.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all elements of the medical device service are compliant with mandatory and statutory standards, national and local targets and with the requirements of the CQC, MHRA, HSE and other regulatory bodies. This includes responsibility for policy development and implementation across the Trust.
  • To assume leadership, advisory and reporting responsibilities to the Trust regarding all aspects of medical device management. Supporting the Trusts risk management and integrated governance teams in ensuring compliance with national standards and minimising potential risks associated with medical device malfunction or adverse incidents.
  • Progress the medical devices related work streams within the organisation's development plan and in support of the Trust's operational targets and strategic intentions.
  • Accountable Senior Management lead for medical devices management, procurement, maintenance and repair.
  • Independent lead for medical device operations, with requirement to interpret organisational policies and establish their implementation.
  • Accountable for the direction, quality and performance of the Trusts Medical Device function.

As Head of Medical Devices you will play an integral role in supporting and accomplishing these initiatives with the development, implementation and governance of our Medical Device strategy.

  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Health and Safety training and qualifications e.g. NEBOSH certificate
  • Chartered Engineer Status

  • Specialist knowledge and extensive experience at a senior level of managing and improving organisational compliance in relation to medical devices in an NHS setting
  • In depth professional knowledge of staff management and performance management, acquired through training or equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to develop and communicate a long-term vision for patient safety and convert that into plans, objectives and deliverables for their organisation
  • Be able to develop and maintain strong relationships across an organisation
  • Significant leadership experience in the specialist area of medical devices at a senior level.
  • Specialist knowledge of the broad range of medical devices in use in an ambulance trus
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries with a range of professional groups and services
  • Experience or demonstrable knowledge of quality improvement and audit methodologies
  • Experience in (including experience in staff management and budget management), planning, organisation of activities and programmes that support change and drive improvement.
  • Experience in contract negotiation and management in relation to medical device procurement and equipment servicing
