Job summary
The Senior Data Scientist in the Strategy and Transformation Department undertakes all manner of deep-dive investigations and strategic analytics, from scoping analytical projects and applying optimal data science techniques, to effectively communicating insights into the "so what" for emergency and urgent care in London. This role provides data-driven insights and tools that support implementing the Trust's Strategy, working with operational colleagues, senior management, and our NHS partners. The Senior Data Scientist brings technical expertise, innovation, and collaboration to inform strategic decision-making and transformation initiatives, thereby helping the Trust deliver outstanding emergency and urgent care to patients whilst contributing to the health of the capital.
Main duties of the job
This role is for a permanent full-time position as a Senior Data Scientist in the Strategy and Transformation Department. This role will involve a mixture of home and office working.
You will apply methods from data science, statistics, and population health to generate insights about service delivery and patient needs from various and complex datasets. You will champion the use of data and analytics to develop and evaluate transformation projects across the Trust. You will also work closely with the Data Science and Business Intelligence teams on analytical projects and sharing technical expertise. You will help ensure that when we collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners, we're using the data we have effectively and ethically. You'll confidently and clearly communicate analytical insights to senior management and operational colleagues, respond tactfully to challenges, and identify further opportunities for strategic analytics.
The ideal candidate will have experience of:
- Statistical modelling and machine learning
- Data visualisation
- Programming (R and/or Python, SQL)
- Leading and delivering data science projects
- Presenting complex analytical findings to non-technical audiences
- Teaching others to use data science techniques
We expect strong candidates will proactively shape their role, such as by identifying new uses of data for advancing strategic analytics, understanding population health, and tackling health inequalities.
