Job summary
Barnet Memory Service is looking to appoint a full time Specialty Doctor (10 sessions), though LTFT may be considered. The post is based at Springwell Centre, Barnet General Hospital, Wellhouse Lane, Barnet, EN5 3DJ.
The successful candidate will be working with another specialty doctor and psychiatric nurses to provide memory assessments to individuals referred to the service. The memory service works in close conjunction with the four older adult community mental health teams which are also based at the Springwell Centre.
Main duties of the job
The post offered is that of a full-time Specialty Doctor in Older Adult Psychiatry, working within the Barnet Memory Service. This is a new and additional post within Older Adult Community Services division. It is a great opportunity to gain a great deal of experience and knowledge working in Older Adult Psychiatry. It has arisen due to additional funding to support and enhance service delivery by Barnet Memory Service due to increased referral rates due to aging population within the borough. The service provides assessments to individuals with cognitive and functioning decline in outpatient setting based at Barnet General Hospital.
The post is full-time for 10 Programmed Activities (PA): 8 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). The post holder will be supported by 4 Consultant Psychiatrist working within Barnet Older Adult CMHTs, as well as a team and service manager.

- Provide memory assessments and treatment plans for patients under the memory service
- Provide leadership and clinical advice to colleagues within the memory service
- Provide treatment based on knowledge of the evidence for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, in accordance with NICE and relevant guidelines
- Ensure effective and timely documentation on electronic patient notes (RiO)
- Provide support in formulating treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team
- Ensure the review and care of patients physical health through liaison with other agencies including the patients GP and general hospital services.
- Promote mental health and independence for all people
- Provide clinical and professional leadership in the service
- Provide support to carers and relatives of people, including them wherever possible and in care plans
- Facilitate access to a range of community orientated services to those who may need them
- Liaise effectively with other Trust services and external partner agencies in the best interests of patients
- Provide a service of the highest quality, within the limits of our resources
- Support non-medical colleagues in working independently
- Take part in management activities related to the post, or the wider service within which it is embedded.

- Primary Medical Degree
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current licence to practise from the GMC at intended start date.
- Section 12 Approved or eligibility for it.

- Evidence of achievement of CT1 1-3 or equivalent competencies in psychiatry at time of application
