Job summary
The Barnet Borough Head for Psychological Services holds a strategic overview and has responsibility for organisational, operational and professional leadership and management, and service and policy development of psychological services within the different care groups and clinical pathways in Barnet. As required the post holder advises on the development of psychological services and supports implementation of appropriate Service Level Agreements within Barnet Borough in BEHMHT and other designated organisations. The post holder will support development of psychological services on the design and delivery of modernisation and service change across care groups, specialisms and care settings as agreed with the Director of Psychological Therapies and Managing Director for Barnet. The postholder will provide consultation and supervision to the consultant psychological therapists in the specialisms within the services across care settings; taking responsibility for directing professional standards and clinical governance including supporting appraisals, recruitment and supervision structures; ensuring that professional standards are met and that appropriate continuing professional development is in place for Psychological Therapists.

Main duties of the job
- To ensure that psychological services are planned, and provided in the most efficient way to meet the Trust's objectives.
- To ensure that adequate information systems are in place to monitor the provision of psychological services in the division. To advise the Borough and Trust management, and other relevant bodies, on issues relating to psychological services in the division. As appropriate, to advise key stakeholders on the planning and provision of psychological services within Barnet alongside the clinical and operational directors and Director for Psychological Therapies.
- To be responsible for ensuring that service level agreements and policies for psychological services in the division are drawn up in accordance with Trust protocols and monitored on a regular basis. To ensure the implementation of the clinical governance agenda within psychological services in the division as appropriate.
- To attend or to ensure psychological representation at relevant meetings concerned with the planning and provision of mental health services in the Borough and in the Trust.
- As appropriate, to contribute to proposals for service and policy developments in the Trust.
- In conjunction with other divisional professional leads, to advise the Trust wide Lead on matters relating to the provision of psychological services.

- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
- Further training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post-doctoral training (diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, together with an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice with an experienced clinical supervisor, at an equivalent level to a postgraduate diploma. Completion of a clinical supervision training (short course) sufficient to be able to supervise doctoral trainees.
