Job summary

We are delighted to advertise for the post of a Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry, working within the well-established Haringey West Core Community Team. This is a replacement post which arisen due to previous postholder leaving the Trust. The post is being covered by an agency doctor. The post holder will provide senior medical cover along with two full-time consultants who are currently in post. Supervision will be provided by the two consultants within the Haringey West Core Community Team.

The post is full-time for 10 Programmed Activities (PA): 8 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).

Main duties of the job

The Haringey West Core Community Team is one of three community mental health teams within Haringey. The Haringey West Core Community Team provides community-based treatment and support for adults with moderate to severe mental health difficulties who live in the borough of Haringey and/or registered with a Haringey GP.

The team is multi-disciplinary and consists of professionals from a number of backgrounds including nursing, social work, psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, graduate mental health workers and community engagement workers and are supported by a dedicated admin team. The care delivered is recovery-focused which involves a change in focus from managing problems and symptoms to focusing on an individual's strengths and goals for the future. The service aims to assist individuals to be in control of your own life and seek out opportunities beyond their condition.

The service is for adults who are aged 18-65 and are experiencing a range of mental health difficulties and who may also have complex needs that would be best met by secondary mental health services. This includes individuals experiencing the following conditions: schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, severe depression, anxiety, personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorders. The service operates Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm.

Job responsibilities

    • Provide senior medical leadership to the team alongside the consultant and in their absence
    • Attend daily morning referral meetings.
    • Provide support to triaging of patients referred to the Haringey West Core Community Team where a medical opinion is required.
    • Provide diagnostic assessment and treatment for individuals under the care of the team.
