Job summary
This is an opportunity to join a service that has been judged outstanding on three occasions by the CQC (most recently in 2021). The previous post holder has progressed to higher training. The Specialty Doctor will provide psychiatric input to and undertake psychiatric assessments and physical health assessments of patients on two wards. One is a self-contained low secure rehabilitation unit away from the main hospital site and the other a medium secure rehabilitation ward. The doctor will be responsible for 12 patients on the low secure ward and up to 10 on the medium secure ward. It is anticipated that the successful applicant would spend two days per week in the low secure unit and two on the Chase Farm Site. The length of stay of these patients varies between a 6 months to several years. The majority of patients will be discharged to the community but others may move to other wards or return to prison. On the fifth day they will attend the academic programme on the Chase Farm site and have the opportunity to take part in CPD. Experience in the assessment and management of a wide range of clinical presentations including personality, affective, anxiety, psychotic, neurodevelopmental and substance related disorders will be acquired. Knowledge and understanding of forensic mental health sections will be developed during this post.
Main duties of the job
The post is based on 10 PAs. The Trust expects all specialty doctors to be committed to annual appraisal and the job planning process, which is required for revalidation.
Job planning for specialty doctors will be supervised by the Clinical Director or their designate. There is a well-established system for appraisals within the Trust. The post holder will be able to choose an appraiser from the Trust's pool of trained appraisers. All appraisal summaries will need to be ratified by the Trust's Responsible Officer who is the Medical Director.
Following appointment there will be an early meeting with the Clinical Director to formalise the job plan and work programme. This will be reviewed annually between the specialty doctor and Clinical Director.
