Job summary

The post holder will be under the BEH CAMHS management structure and receive regular supervision from within the service. They will be co-located with Operation Engage with other L&D practitioners and the Local Authority YJS, complimenting the existing coordinated and successful approach by developing and supporting systems to ensure that when a young person is arrested, they are provided the opportunity for a mental health, safety, and wellbeing assessment.

The post holder will provide a service from the custody suite at Wood Green Police station. They will need to attend other sites for meetings and supervision, as directed by their clinical supervisor and operational leads within BEH CAMHS. The post holder will ensure that when a young person, who has been arrested they will have access to a mental health professional who will be able to provide an assessment and link the young person with the relevant community services.

Main duties of the job

  • Communicate complex information in simple ways to children and young people in highly stressful environments.
  • Dealing with sensitive or contentious information, sharing information in line with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR)
  • To maintain confidentiality of any information received in the course of your duties.
  • To work in partnership with other agencies to safeguard and protect children, young people, and adults
  • Routine communication, which may be complex, i.e., involving a number of agencies / service providers for youth offenders with concerns around: physical/mental health; safeguarding; and criminal justice

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • At least one of the following professional registrations & qualifications: Nursing - Registered Mental Health Nurse (Part 3 or Part 13 of NMC register);
  • Allied Health Professional - Registered AHP with recognised national registered body
  • Social Work - Registered Social Worker with HCPC/Social Work England;
  • Psychologist - Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS oRegistration with the Health Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist;
  • Family and Systemic Psychotherapy - MSc in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy and professional registration with the UKCP;
  • Professional Doctorate in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy or equivalent accredited training leading to Full Membership of the Association of Child Psychotherapists. Membership of the Professional Standards Association, with registration as a practitioner Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

Desirable

  • Educated to Degree Level Nursing/Social Care/Psychology or equivalent
  • Evidence of ongoing education and other courses relevant to Forensic and Liaison Psychiatry.
  • Mentorship or teaching and assessing clinical practice qualification.

  • Experience of specialist assessment and treatment of children, young people and their families within the criminal justice system.
