Job summary

This newly created post is for a 5PA substantive national contract post for a specialty doctor in addiction psychiatry working in an established partnership between Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental health Trust (hitherto BEH) and Human Kind, a third sector organisation. The team base is at 9 Bruce Grove, Haringey, London N17 6RA, and will mainly involve outreach work in the community in the homeless or rough sleepers pathway for substance misuse, with the doctor occasionally seeing their clients at team base. The outreach work will be mainly at Mulberry junction at Bruce grove (near the service), Olive Morris court hostel in Ermine road and Osborne Grove at Upper Tollington park in the Finsbury park area.

This post has been created to provide the fledgling rough sleepers service with regular medical input, which to date has been provided ad hoc by the medics at team base. The post holder will be strengthening this service but also be part of the wider drug team and liaise with the wider team. There are an average of 2 new referrals per week into the service and the post holder will be expected to see at least one of them for an initial medical assessment. As mentioned later, the post holder will not be holding a caseload but rather supporting the RSDAT key worker and the team manager with the provision of medical input for Initial Medical Assessments and Clinical reviews.

Main duties of the job

The specialty doctor will be one of the front-line clinicians, alongside the two NMPs, another part-time specialty doctor in addictions, a full-time core trainee and Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist. The post holder will sit within the rough sleepers pathway (also known as Rough Sleepers Drug and alcohol Team) of the Grove. They will act as a reference point for the multi-disciplinary team, taking an active part in ensuring that assessment, treatment, and review procedures are consistent and of high quality. The RSDAT comprises of a team manager, a drug worker, and an alcohol nurse. There is regular oversight from the operational manager and Consultant lead.

The aim is to promote professional integrated health working with the hardest to reach client populations. As part of this the doctor will have some of the following roles and responsibilities:

We provide a wide range of local and more specialist mental health services, including helping people with serious mental illness (SMI), personality disorders, drug and alcohol recovery, children's mental health issues, dementia, eating disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD and suicide prevention. It also runs the North London Forensic Service (NLFS), which the CQC has rated as Outstanding.

Our CEO, Jinjer Kandola MBE has been appointed to be joint CEO for both BEH and Camden and Islington Trust, bringing the two organisations ever closer together and they are now working in a partnership across North Central London. This is allowing for the joint expertise, increased innovation and reduction in barriers with joint initiatives.
