The North London Forensic Service are recruiting one Assistant Psychologist (AP) to join our diverse and innovative team at the Heathrow Immigration Removal Centre. We are seeking an AP who is passionate about working in mental health settings to support our Psychology department.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to delivering psychological aspects of care, including conducting assessments and delivering interventions (1:1 and group work) under supervision of a qualified Psychologist; work independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified Psychologist and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures. You will also have the opportunity to assist in clinically related administration, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching, project work and also work with the Lead Psychologist to support the development and implementation of a trauma informed system of care.
The successful candidate will have strong engagement skills, and the ability to work well with other professionals (MDT and wider staff) and an appreciation of the challenging environment in which all staff are working.
Please note that the post holder will be required to work two Saturdays per month (AM).
Main duties of the job
To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service, across all sectors of care. The role will involve a combination of data management, assessment and some therapeutic interventions under supervision with a range of clients both individually and in groups in order to develop psychological skills. The post requires a good understanding of how to set up and analyse a database, audit service delivery, and provide reports. Supervision will be provided by a qualified Psychologist. The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.
The post holder will need to be a central part of the healthcare team at the HIRC. The healthcare team works within the HIRC and provides a multifaceted model with elements of crisis intervention, brief assessment and intervention, long term case management and assertive outreach. The post holder therefore needs to be able to work flexibly according to the needs of the client and be able to apply a bespoke intervention alongside other disciplines within the team. The post holder will provide support, consultation, and formal and informal training to colleagues and other staff. Excellent communication and relationship management skills are essential to this post.

- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
