Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised, and industrious Assistant Psychologist, with extensive experience in the area of eating disorders, to join our Psychological Therapies Team.

This post will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work within a large and well-established Eating Disorders Service. The Assistant Psychologist supports and enhances the psychological care of patients within the service by providing psychological assessments and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities of the Assistant Psychologist also include co-facilitation of outpatient and inpatient groups, clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. The Assistant Psychologist will be expected to be able to work independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

The successful candidates will receive weekly supervision from a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist and have access to support and training opportunities from other professionals within the multidisciplinary team. In addition to a weekly Psychological Therapies Team meetings and fortnightly CPD sessions, there are regular multidisciplinary meetings for inpatients and outpatients as well as clinical improvement groups where the whole service meets on a monthly basis.

About us

The Eating Disorders Service at St Ann's Hospital in Haringey provides comprehensive care for patients 18 years old and above with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder. It is one of the largest units in the country providing services to a catchment area that includes North Central London, North East London and parts of Essex. The service provides intensive inpatient treatment on Iris ward which is located in a newly built state of the art mental health building, Blossom Court. Our 20 bedded unit features ensuite bedrooms, more daylight and views of nature to help reduce patient stress, anxiety and pain as well as a sensory room. The service also includes our outpatient services, community liaison services, and a day programme which are also housed in a newly renovated, purpose designed unit.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • 2:1 or above psychology degree.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable

  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • 1 year's experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist (or similar) with people with eating disorders
  • Experience of clinical work in a related or relevant specialism (e.g. inpatient, CBT, group work
  • An understanding of psychology applied to health care

Desirable

  • Experience of paid work in direct care provision as an Assistant Psychologist
