Job summary
Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust are looking for keen and enthusiastic Band 5 RMN's to work on our Older Adults Mental Health In-patient Services based at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield.
The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care supported through a robust preceptorship or personal and professional development programme linked to the Trust's implementation of the Knowledge and Skills.
The post holder will also co-ordinate the individual's assessment and subsequent care plan as agreed with the multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder will adhere to Trust policies, Data Protection and Health and Safety.
Main duties of the job
- To participate as an effective member of the MDT and be responsible for the development and facilitation of a patient centred approach to care.
- To observe the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 ensuring the patient is fully informed of their legal position and their rights under the Act.
- To determine nursing priorities and plan patient care accordingly including full risk assessment, inform the Nurse in Charge when changes in circumstances may affect standards of care.
- To meet the physical, psychological, social and cultural needs of the individual and their family, using research based knowledge and skills to maintain the individual's identity.
- To recognise the needs of the family/carers, ensuring their involvement in care where appropriate whilst offering support and education with empathy
- To liaise with other professionals/specialist nurses and special units to ensure that all facets of the patient's care are covered.
- Assist in the education of patients to having a greater understanding of their mental health condition working towards developing their strengths and coping strategies.
- To administer medication in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct, and locally agreed policies. Have a working knowledge of medication used in the treatment of mental health and be able to provide basic information regarding medication.
- To represent the patients views in ward rounds, handover, tribunals etc under supervision.
- To supervise junior staff and students on placement.
